Round 8 Match Report
4th June 2016
U14’s Football
Hay U14’s played Moulamein on a very wet and slippery day and the team showed that in any conditions they are up to the task.
Hay started strong from the first siren and again this was helped from great play out of the centre by Jack Miller and the rest of our on ball juggernaut. Some strong play from the forward line resulted in early goals and one of the leaders in this strong play was Liam Hayward, his second and third attempt in fighting
for the ball lifted the whole team. Ferg Cattanach, Jack Miller and Tom Christensen were annoying the scorekeeper again and Hay had five goals by the end of the quarter.
The second was played extremely well by Hay who revelled in the wet conditions putting their heads over the ball in the big packs forming around the ball. Ben Marshall and Brait Headon showing determination and were assisted in some strong play by Angus Gardiner who seems to be improving week by week. Goals to J. Miller, K. Hargreaves and B.Headon increasing the Hay lead.
After the big break Hay came out full of vigour and the strong play again came to the fore, with our little men such as Bailey Caughey and Lane Griffith benefiting from great shepherding by Del Crighton. Jack Headon showed both skill and strength, and is quickly cementing himself as a quintessential part of this team. Tom Christensen and Jensen Hargreaves were displaying the usual skill level we have become accustomed to and Ben Caughey again showed his ability to play any position and snagged himself a major as well as having a crack in the ruck.
The last quarter saw the play slow down, however players such as Daniel Stewart and the Clarke brothers keep plugging away all game, always providing a contest right to the last siren. The highlight of this quarter the the combination of Will Simpson and Will Rutledge in the back line proving to be a formidable force. Bailey Caughey was also on the end of some good play scoring Hays only major for the quarter.
All in all it was a great show by Hay showing no matter what the day delivers this team never take their eyes off the prize.
