Round 10 V Macorna
U 17’s Football Report
25th June 2016
In slippery conditions the Under 17’s took on a Macorna side who were above them on the ladder in second place.
The first quarter saw Macorna play good football leading Hay to the ball, hitting targets and working harder to get numbers to the contest with only Sam Doidge and Kane Johnston both in the backline having an impact for Hay. At quarter time, Hay were down by two goals and needed to lift.
The second quarter saw a change in momentum as Hay, lead by the half back line of Liam Headon, Jack Cattanach and Tom Schiller started to re-bound everything that Macorna threw at them and push the ball forward where Ben Arandt took control, and Luke Lugsdin got dangerous around the goals. Half time saw Hay up 4 gaols to 2 but with plenty of work to do to get the win.
The third quarter saw the midfield respond with Sam Ward playing his best game of the season, Zac Fitzpatrick and Tim Zambon getting plenty of ball, as Monte Barnes and Charlie Hurst got on top of the Macorna big men. A six goal third quarter for Hay resulted, as Noah Hey, Kynan Headon, Isaac Wilson and Dylan Lund all caused headaches for the Macorna defence.
The final quarter saw Hay’s smaller men continue to create opportunities as Jimmy McKenzie, Noah Wilson and Darcy Cullenward competed hard around the packs, to push Hay to a 10 goal win.
The game saw the three Headon brothers play together with Brait contributing alongside his brothers, and saw Jack Gibson and Digby Lilburne do some good things on the day as well.
