F Troop Ultima 16 defeated Hay 8
After a long fight the girls ended up losing 16 – 8. All the girls played well never giving up through the whole game. Isabella Eyre (Auldist Family Players Player award) had a fantastic game in defence stopping many goals. Ava McMillan & Ruby Stewart (Lions Canteen Coach’s award) worked well together in the goal ring and shooting some impressive goals. Clare Stevenson (Highway In Motel Best on Court Award) had an outstanding game in centre moving the ball down the court. All the girls deserved and award this week as they all stepped up and played a great team game.

U14’s Ultima 28 defeated Hay 19
Hay started the game with strength and determination for the ball and by half time the game was anyone’s for the taking. Unfortunately for Hay, the Ultima team capitalised on every opportunity and Hay was unable to close the scoring gap despite their best efforts. Gemma Tassell (Peter Mullins Building Best on Court) had a fantastic game in defence and provided great support for her team throughout the centre court. Iona Cullenward (Morrison Shearing Players’ Player) had a great game in shooting and her precision and speed were appreciated by her team in Hay’s centre court. Katie Arandt (North Deni Steel Coach’s Award) had a brilliant game in shooting, with her practice paying off with improved accuracy. She also displayed strength and confidence in Hay’s defensive end when she shifted there in the second half. The Hay girls will be hungry for a win next week when they take on Murrabit, who are top of the table, to keep their finals hopes alive.

U17’s Hay 49 defeated Ultima 2
The score does not show just how hard Ultima made the Hay Lions work for the impressive win. Ruby Stewart (Peter Mullins Building Best on Court) was instrumental in achieving this result with a massive 20 intercepts, she played defence and then had a run in the centre court and dominated the entire game. Chloe Slattery (Hicks Family Players Player award) was once again a very versatile player in both defence and shooting and outplayed her opponents in either position. Grace Christensen (Morrison’s Shearing Coach’s Award) shot more than half the goals for the team and controlled both the centre third and her goal third, with her speed and agility she made life very hard for the Ultima defenders. Thanks once again to the girls who stepped up and filled in for our girls who are away playing AFL. Gemma Tassell played a superb game in the centre court and also on defence, Katie Arandt continues to prove that she is going to be a very strong netball player who can play and position asked of her and Maddy Doidge used her speed and height to assist the attacking team.

B Reserve Ultima 53 defeated Hay 22
Ultima were fierce competition on Saturday and they came out strong right from the get go. Unfortunately they managed to keep up this momentum for the entire game which resulted in such a high score for them. Lyla Quinn (Jodie’s Hairdressing Players Player award) tried hard in attack and never stopped trying for her team and continued to encourage the girls to keep their heads up. Therese Murphy (Foodworks Best on Court award) had a blinder of a game in defence, she through everything she had into her game this week and despite the score she pressured her opponent for the full hour. Cherokee Dixon (Hay Bowling and Golf Club Coach’s award) worked tirelessly to get the ball down the court to her goalies and dominated the centre court.

B Grade Ultima 59 defeated Hay 14
The B Grade team faced Ultima and they knew it was going to be a challenging game due to Ultima’s number one position on the ladder. The girls started the first quarter looking organised and working well as a team, however, the calm consistency of Ultima’s game was too good for the Lions. In the second quarter it seemed everything that could go wrong for the Lions, did go wrong. This allowed Ultima to gain a strong lead by half time 30 – 5. The girls made some positional changes putting Bronwyn Hicks in shooting and Laura Zambon (Harrison’s IGA Best on Court Award) out into the centre court and with the defence team of Jasmine Gregory, Kerri Mijok and Tamara Wade (North Deni Steel Players Player and Riverina Hotel Coach’s Awards) working tirelessly seemed to help helped their game and the team started to lift with them having their best quarter of the game but it was a little late to change the outcome of the game.

A Grade Ultima 36 defeated Hay 30
A grade had a strong start on the weekend and although they earned an early lead they weren’t able to hang on to it in the end. At half time Hay were up by one gaol 17 – 16. Ultima played a stronger last half and the girls went down by 6 goals. Emily Siely (Players Player) had another strong attacking game and never drops her momentum throughout the game and is a dominate player with her speed and agility. Bridget Austerberry (Anthony Slattery Fireworks Best on Court Award) is outstanding in the centre court and leading and encouraging the team with a great positive attitude. Once again Ruby Stewart (South Hay Hotel Coach’s Award) was relentless in defence and made the Ultima team work extra hard to get the win.

Next week we will have another tough day on the courts when we travel to Murrabit who are dominating the competition so far but the Hay Lions are always up for a challenge and will do their best to come home with the wins.
