F Troop Hay 13 defeated Nullawil 3
The F-Troop girls are improving each week, the girls had a great game on Saturday winning 13-4. Their team work and encouraging talk on the court helped them receive this result. Olivia Huggins (Auldist Family, players player) had a fantastic game in the centre court feeding the shooters. Ruby Cattanach (Lion’s Canteen, coach’s award) had a brilliant game in shooter rarely missing a goal or rebound. Clare Stevensen (Highway Inn Motel, best on court) worked well in shooter and the centre court as well as being captain for the day and encouraging the team on the court. Well done girls on a team effort.
U14’s Hay 28 def Nullawil 15
This match was tougher than the Hay girls expected, and was anyone’s game for the taking at 3 quarter time. The Hay girls were motivated to give it their all in the last quarter and every player worked hard to push the team to a 13 goal win. Gemma Tassell (Peter Mullins Award – Best on Court and Morrison’s Award – Players’ Player) played a ripper game in Hay’s defence, taking countless intercepts and providing support down the court. Daisy Barnes (Coaches’ Award) played a spectacular game for Hay and adapted well to playing in Wing Defence. The Hay girls now have a big week ahead of them as they prepare to take on Macorna to battle for a place in finals.
U17’s Hay 44 defeated Nullawil 28
This was the first game in three weeks with all the girls playing together and they had a very slow start but they adjusted and came together as a team to come away with the win. Grace Christensen (Morrison’s Shearing Best On Court Award) had a blinder of a game controlling the centre court and keeping her team motivated. Chloe Slattery (Peter Mullins Building Coach’s Award) had an amazing game in defence pulling in most of the rebounds and making many intercepts to turn the ball over for her team. Hannah Stewart (Hick’s Family Players Player) had a great game in the centre court. The girls ended up playing a great game and will now need to keep up the momentum to prepare for the finals.

B Reserve Nullawil 61 defeated Hay 26
It was always going to be a tough game against Nullawil yesterday. Although B.Reserve put in a good effort we were simply out played by a stronger team. Better players for Hay were Mel Ovens (Jodie’s Hairdressings Players Player Award) had another great game in the attacking end, Therese Murphy (Foodwork’s Best On Court Award) was outstanding in defence against a very strong opponent and she never gave for the entire game and teamed well with Olivia Wells (Hay Bowling and Golf Club Coach’s Award).
B Grade Nullawil 63 defeated Hay 39
Hay Lions B grade team faced Nullawil on Saturday. The girls were off to a good start in the beginning of the first quarter, however Nullawil were able to score several goals towards the end of the quarter giving them a good head start above the lions. During the second and third quarter the Lions were struggling to keep the ball down their end and unfortunately Nullawil had the opportunity to score several goals. By fourth quarter Nullawil had a strong lead, however this was the best quarter played by the lions and it was great to see them scoring some great goals. The stand out players on the day were Bronwyn Hicks (Harrison’s IGA Best on Court Award) Kylie Brettschneider (North Deni Steel Players Player Award) and Jade Auldist (Riverina Hotel Coach’s Award).
A Grade Nullawil 55 defeated Hay 42
A Grade had a tough physical game on Saturday against Nullawil. The game started strong, with the girls matching goal for goal. Nullawil got away in the third quarter and although the Lions put in a strong last quarter effort, they weren’t able to take the points. Chloe Slattery had a big job in GK and rose to it to take out the player’s player award. Bridget Austerberry was solid all over the court and got the Anthony Slattery Fireworks Best on Court and Hannah Stewart did a great job running in WA to get the South Hay Coach’s award. The A Grade team are gearing up for a run in the finals and the way they are playing they are strong contenders to make it to the top.
